Titanic Centenary Commemoration
BBC Radio Lancashire were once more hosts to a small ensemble of Band Members at the lunch-time Sally Naden Show This was broadcast as a special Titanic Centenary event. The Blackburn studio also housed an exhibition of Titanic memorabilia. Our visit was to promote the concert to be held the next day in aid of the Royal National Lifeboat Institute.
Led by Musical Director Dale Grindrod, the musicians played the sailors' Hymn "For Those in Peril on the Sea" and the evocative hymn "Nearer My God To Thee", allegedly the last music played on the great ship. They also played the aspirational American folk tune "Cindy" and hit song and dance tune of 1911, "Alexander's Rag Time Band".
